Some Hangers.

I inherited these hangers long ago. I hang my frequently unused clothes on them. Someone, probably my great-great g-ma, took the time to razzle-dazzle them with yarn. Why? So that years later I could ponder the tassled area.

This Book That Book.

I am reading a book, this book:

and another book, and this is it:

And I am reading the pair of these books at the same time.

But before these books, I finished this book:

and this book:

and had started this book, but never finished it:

And I haven't seen any good movies lately.
And this is my dog, Midge:

She is not a big reader, but she can vomit on the carpet.

While cleaning out the antiquated laundry chute in the upper landing, Carmine swept up the tiniest of unicorns.

"Norwyn Plays the Piano".

Norwyn plays the piano with a melancholy glare. You're wrong, Hale... this piano recital will prove to be Norwyn's Magnus Opus.

Never Could Toe the Mark.

I was named after a Waylon Jennings song entitled "Amanda". This little factoid explains the essence of who I am in a nutshell (or an eggshell, if you prefer eggs to nuts).

Waylon Jennings, yes, not Teitur's "Amanda's Dream" or Boston's "Amanda" or Copeland's "Pin Your Wings”. Waylon Jenning's "Amanda" was the apparent song of choice back when I emerged from the womb in 1985. My dad's fitting choice. Today I am proud to say that my dad is a Texan country man who enjoys himself some beer and Waylon. Of course he didn't keep up with the pop hits back in '85... thank goodness, otherwise my name may have ended up being "Sussudio".... or...Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

...."Penny Lover”.Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

And so, I stand here today to say thank God for Waylon Jennings in all of his alcoholic, amphetamine-addicted glory. Thanks, Waylon.

Once.

Find this soundtrack and buy it. Then listen to it.

Little Wing.

Today a friend of mine emailed me this little delight:

These are my friends Aaron and his ambrosial girlfriend, Heather. Their cuteness and obvious care for one another instantly reminded me of the Brad Renfro-Jonathan Taylor Thomas duo, banded together in kahoots, in the 1995 smash hit "Tom and Huck".

I wish they had done more work as a doublette.

1995 was a great year for Jonathan Taylor Thomas. If you'll remember with me, in '95 he also costarred in "Man of the House" with Chevy Chase as little Ben Archer... A.K.A. "Little Wing".

In other news, a couple of weeks ago a buddy said to me, "If my Ipod broke I would die." I've been pondering this sentence ever since it fell out of his mouth. I was left wondering how this buddy of mine would react to receiving a heart attack or to developing cancer of the larynx.

As if every time an Ipod breaks somewhere in the world, the owner has an aneurism on the spot. I wonder if Apple could make that happen.

The Recent Scoop.

The things that happen rarely excite me. My mind knows its job. It runs a crucial operation, every minute of every day. Its goal is to embellish the mundane within any given time, and to twist boring circumstances into a life worth living. With an imagination more resourceful than reality, I try to prevent my brain from shriveling to the size of a raisin from a lack of thrill and stimulation. In my head, everything is much more interesting than it really is.

And so, it is with this pretence that I begin the recent scoop of my life.

June. My dear friend, Meredith, was married then on the 10th. She was pretty. She's always pretty, but she was especially pretty on the day that she lept into holy matrimony. She looked like gold, but better.

I started here, with June, because shortly after Meredith was chained to the ball, several things changed.

Firstly, I moved all of my belongings to the home of my daddy. My dad is good. We live in Lubbock, Texas, in a house. I moved there from an apartment on the other side of town.

After I moved in with my dad I took a leave of absence from my job and things.

I left town and flew to Mexico City, the second largest city in the world, surpassed in population only by Tokyo, Japan. At the airport in Mexico City I was met by a man holding a piece of paper that said my name. To clarify, the paper didn't actually speak my name, it simply displayed my name in Times New Roman font. The man holding the piece of paper was expecting me. He did not speak English. In 30 minutes time I was a passenger in a taxi heading out of Mexico City, speeding at a rate much too rapid for safety. The highway rocketed under the wheels of the car and carried the driver and I weaving toward my new home.

This is a photograph of me in the airport:

With senses too startled to successfully obtain a first impression, I arrived in Cuernavaca, Mexico. I lived in Cuernavaca for seven weeks. I studied Spanish at a school. I studied Spanish because I enjoy learning things in interesting ways. I think living in Mexico was an interesting way to learn. I made Mexican friends. Real life Mexican friends. They're real, you can tell by their actualness.

The two main things I took away from my Mexico experience was an increased knowledge of Spanish and an addiction to the television show LOST. I now love LOST.

While I was gone one of my best friends moved away from home (Lubbock). Now that I am back home I realize that I miss him. But, I suppose he moved for a good reason.

After seven weeks passed, I came home to Lubbock, Texas for three days. It was an enjoyable three days.

Then, I drove to Dallas, Texas. I parked my car in the DFW airport parking lot and flew to Washington, DC, which is the 61st largest city in the world. Here, Meredith, the bride mentioned earlier, grabbed me up from the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

I got into Meredith's white Volkswagon Jetta and we immediately drove to Jacksonville, North Carolina.

This is Meredith and her white Volkswagon Jetta:

Meredith and I drove to North Carolina in order to find a place for her and her new husband to live. We stayed in North Carolina for three days and successfully discovered a winsome new home for the newlyweds. While in North Carolina we happened upon a town called Wilmington which happened to be an incredible experience. We hung around and saw a music show. Martin Sexton played the music show. He is an incredible experience.

After three days we drove back to the Washington DC area. I enjoyed my time there.

After five or six or seven days away from Texas, I arrived back to Texas and to the DFW airport, where I had left my car parked... remember? At this juncture, I drove to Austin and stayed with a friend and had a little Austin celebration. There are always celebrations in Austin, and always a couch to sleep on... the couch of Eliot Fitzgerald.

The next day I drove to Fred, Texas. It is a small town where I get a break from my cell phone and high speed internet access because there is a lack of satellites. I ate good family food and stayed one night in Fred. My cousin's baby is an awesome miniature man... Logan:

The following morning I drove to Dallas, Texas. On the way I stopped in Huntsville at a Hasting's Books and Music store and bought a Sufjan Stevens album. Sufjan Stevens almost killed me while driving across Texas because of his soft, gentle way of making one want to fall asleep behind the wheel while driving across Texas. Instead of dying, I made it to Dallas safely and I crashed out once again with a friend.

Finally, I came home to Lubbock. And here we are. I started back to work last week. Back to the "normal".

Classes commenced at Texas Tech University today. I have two classes this semester. One is History of Rock and Roll and the other is a research class. Today, after my classes, my friends hosted a Rocky marathon. Balboa, that is. I watched Rocky II and left. I have them all memorized.

Tonight I watched two bands play live at The Porchlight, a newish music venue in town. One was Deas Vail and the other was The New Frontiers. They are touring the nation. I suggest that you attend the show if they venture to a town near you. I enjoy The New Frontiers because 4 out of 5 of the band members have beards. Also, the drum kit is sparkly.

-That is The New Frontiers, minus one because he was too far to the right.

When I got home I realized that my dog, Midge, had torn the toilet paper up again...

That is what's been up. It's good stuff... that is why I like Him.

Congratulations on making your way to the end of this blog. It shows you have a genuine sort of interest in my life, which makes me feel good. Thanks.
