"Augustus and His Standing"

Augustus was never too good at doing stuff, but he was always good at standing.
So, he stood there. And he stood there. And he stood there.
At first, Augustus was only standing for a couple of minutes. But after about 60 minutes or so, Augustus had been standing for an hour.
That hour turned into 3, which turned into 4, and so on.
Before Augustus knew it, he had been standing there for a day.
Then, that day turned into a few, and then several, and then many.
Eventually, Augustus found that he had been standing in the same place for 3 months.
Those months multiplied themselves by 4, and Augustus stood for a year.
He stood. He stood still. He stood for nothing.
Augustus figured that if he stood there, and stood there, and stood long enough, that maybe someone else would walk by and do something interesting.
And maybe, from where he was standing, Augustus figured he might be able to see the interesting thing take place.
And maybe still, if he could see the interesting thing take place, maybe it would come close enough to touch.
And perhaps, if he could touch the interesting thing, he could grab ahold of it.

A mongoose and a deer doing laundry together. Never imagined such a world could exist, but it looks like our society is making progress after all.

Morning Activities.

This morning I was singing aloud in my car while driving home from the grocery store.

I spent the past weekend away from town and, so as not to allow spoilage and a subsequent nasty smelling fridge, had consumed all edible foods on Friday. I journeyed this morning to pick up avacados, sweet potatoes, lettuce, beet chips, and so on.

And so, I was singing aloud in my car while driving home from the grocery store when a daring cat darted from one side of the neighborhood street to the other, meeting the underside of my car and back left tire before reaching the opposite curb in a wriggling stupor.

I ran over a cat. Then I screamed and continued driving.

And I'll never know what happened to that cat... because I continued driving and driving and driving and driving in shock until I had driven clear to my house. Then I enjoyed a delicious avacado sandwich with beet chips and a glass of orange juice. And the day went on in that sort of good fashion.

Still, poor cat.
